We are reaching out to you, our Anthropology Program alumni in order build a network that will better support our alums and our current students.

In this first EKU Anthropology Alumni Newsletter, we want to share updates from students and faculty. And, we hope that in return, you too will share your own updates with us.

We are especially looking for alumni who are interested in sharing their career journey with our students. Please email EKU Anthropology faculty if you would like to serve in this capacity. You can find our contact information on our website.

In this newsletter, you’ll find student notes from our 2023 Archaeology and Primate Field Schools, a Madagascar Study Abroad spotlight, and the Society of Student Anthropologists. You’ll also find highlights about our new faculty members Dr. Daniel Joseph (pictured above), Director of the Center for Africana Engagement, and an Alumni Spotlight with Rose Johnson.

You will also find remembrances for  three alumni who recently passed away under “In Memoriam.”

Many of you know that Dr. Kelli Carmean retired in May 2023. We are pleased to announce that Dr. Kimberly Swisher will be joining our program in Fall 2024. She brings specializations in Southeastern prehistoric archaeology.

We are excited to share that the Anthropology Program has relocated to the Roark Building, with our offices on the second floor and our labs in the basement. You are welcome to come visit!

We look forward to hearing from you!
Dr. Amanda Green
Anthropology Program Coordinator
